I am a libertarian, atheist poet. Retired from paid employment, I now write and perform poetry and develop and discuss my views on life, the universe and everything.
In my youth I was a Marxist because I had an idealistic belief that the world could and should be made better for lots of people who were victims of exploitation, violence, prejudice and unfairness generally. Having seen the terrible failure of communist regimes and the appalling human suffering that has gone with that I have realised that attempts by governments to control the economy are bound to fail, and the more they attempt to plan things that are not capable of being planned, the more they resort to tyrannical methods to force everything and everybody to fit their model.
The communist experiment has cost tens of millions of lives and we must try to ensure that it never happens again. I now wish to see as little involvement of the state in the lives of citzens as is possible in a society where we do have a government that ensures the rule of law and protection of citizens from invasion and crime.

Hello, I am an anarchist, atheist poet, unfortunately not yet retired. hello,

Hi gingatao! and welcome to my world. I am not an anarchist because I strongly believe that there is a need for a minimal state, but I am sure that we will have a lot in common. Retirement is a great liberation in itself. May you have a very long one when you finally get there and in the menatime perhaps we can enjoy each others thoughts and creations.

I didn’t know you were on WordPress! I see you’ve found some of the best writers I know: GingaTao and Narnie. Adding you onto my blogroll, Malcolm. You really should have let me know you were here to be read and I look forward to reading your posts. – Mimi Amos.

I don’t know what this unintelligible rubbish is supposed to be about Sarah. If you are going to comment you should at least take some trouble to understand what you are talking about and make what you say understandable.

Hello Malpoet,
A blast from the past, the past having passed.
I hope that you are doing well, anarchy aside. I too have retired from the paid employment, but have not yet learned the value of retirement – especially given such a privilged position – but I use the girls, and their constant demand for university top-ups, as an excue. I am struggling with anarchy too – still too restrained.
If the urge takes you, I’d like to hear from you, hear how you are doing.
With warm regards and fond memories,
Paul

Malpoet,
I thought you might like to know that the individual who called themself Tina Hayes and who started a conflict with about your piece on Heaven’s Gate never existed except in the mind of a 38 year old man who lives near Edmonton, Alberta. This individual, first name of Austin, created several fake identities that claimed to be “new followers” of HG. Austin never was part of HG and in no represents that group or Their Teachings.
Jason

Thank you for the information Jason. The reality is that deluded cults tend to attract deluded people. Tina Hayes maybe somebody else, but thirty nine real people died because of their adherence to Heaven’s Gate. Anybody who follows or tries to support cults which promise paradise or some form of apocalyptic end times and have a leader around which there is great focus risks being a party to dreadful disappointment at best and the possibility of much worse.

Malpoet,
For what it’s worth, yes, it was me who made up some identities as “new followers” to a hoax which was part of a publicity stunt. As far as new converts are concerned, there aren’t any. All that there are is survivors or former followers. For what it’s worth I apologize for the inconvenience you experienced with the “Tina” identity. What Jason Bartel, of Madison Wisconsin said was true but one thing. I actually DID sincerely study the information of Heaven’s Gate. I watched the videos, listened to the CD’s and read the book. The problem was that I became consumed by the hoax long enough to eventually believe it was real- like some strange Sci Fi novelist who eventually began to believe that his fiction was real. Also, what jason failed to mention was that when I eventually came clean, he sent me harassing emails with abusive words and has stalked me up and down the internet. He has also invaded my private life and apparently defamed my character. This will result in legal charges that will be brought against him. However, as for you, I apologize to you and I wish you and everyone well- except Jason Bartel- a.k.a. Crlody/ Carlan/ CRL who is now in trouble with the law.
March 30, 2009 at 21:52 |
Thanks for the information Austin. There is no need to apologise to me. I am not inconvenienced in any way by comments about my posts.
The important thing for me is that people were led to their deaths by the Heaven’s Gate cult and the lives of many other people have been damaged. As with other cults there was no truth or justification in any of the claims of its leaders.
Nobody should offer any sort of credibility to the liars and frauds who have fed their own power lust at the expense of ruining lives and bringing about deaths. So far as ‘Tina’ was any part of that it was dangerous stupidity.
March 30, 2009 at 22:15 |
True, it was dangerous stupidity. Publicity stunts are often risky. No excuse for it.
Other survivors of Heaven’s Gate I sincerely apologized to accepted my apology and let it go. Only Jason (Carlan/ Crlody/ CRL) was the one who was hell bent on starting a vendetta/ slam campaign. Then again, he is NOT the man to speak to about Heaven’s Gate teachings either. In fact, his actions would be the kinds of actions that would turn people away from the Heaven’s Gate teachings.
People always get turned off from major hypocrites.
Sawyer and Rio Di Angelo are more seasoned and sincere people to talk to if anyone so chooses to talk to them about HG teachings. Jason is merely some vindictive monster with a chip on his shoulder. What he failed to mention was that he has also harassed Rio Di Angelo, Mark and Sarah King with slamming articles and harassing emails over the years.
As for your statements, I understand your concern about cults and the hold they have on people. You were just expressing your concern. There are some serious cults out there that manipulate people and psychologically blackmail to mentally hold hostage in their cults. It’s a sad fact. Through manipulation and intimidation they get what they want.
March 31, 2009 at 09:57 |
Heaven’s Gate didn’t have teachings. The ridiculous rubbish that the leaders used to draw people into their organisation had no basis in reality. Making up stories involving special knowledge, revelation, etc. is a standard tool of those seeking to to satisfy their own egos and power lust by attracting followers. In the case of HG this ended in multiple deaths. There is nothing positive to be said about HG. All that needs to be remembered about this cult is its horrific outcome. It had no knowledge and there are no HG teachings.
May 4, 2009 at 15:16 |
Austin Plecity is completely and wholly responsible for the hoax of “new followers” to HG including the “Tina Hayes” who picked a fight with you on your forum. He even faked the “deaths” of two of his “new followers” and he created a phony internet religion called “The Gates of Fox Mulder” in 2005 and used multiple identities to post on internet forums. His statement that I am “in trouble with the law” is in fact a libelous statement and he could get sued. He has threatened others in the past with the IRS and I have recommended that he seek professional help which is probably why he continues to attack me. He lied to myself and others for years and initially when he was called on his hoax he attacked me with his fake identities. He only admitted to his sick hoax months after he’d been exposed.
May 4, 2009 at 16:01 |
The UFO cults are completely mad and they carry the danger that some people in them might be drawn into horrors like the deaths of the Heaven’s Gate members.
The fact that some of the’members’ of these cults use hoax and multiple identities should not be a surprise.
The lesson is to avoid all cults and build up resistance to the absurd fnatasies of these people.
May 4, 2009 at 16:44 |
Austin was never a member of the Heaven’s Gate group. The HG group is gone and can not be re-started. Everything Austin did was on his own. I apologize for posting on this forum but I felt it necessary to set the record straight that Austin and all of his multiple identities have absolutely nothing to do with the group that has come to be known as Heaven’s Gate and everything to do with a single disturbed individual who has a history of creating internet hoaxes. Thank you for listening and I won’t bother you again with any of this.
May 5, 2009 at 03:38 |
Malpoet, Jason Bartel is in no way a good example of the Heaven’s Gate group. Sure I had made a stupid mistake with the hoax. For that I’m not sorry enough. That’s my karma now. But when Jason has gone over the top by saying things like that I’m “mentally/ deeply disturbed” those are very serious and false allegations. He talks about the IRS and how I threatened legal action though a fictional follower named Weslody against Mark and Sarah King. What Jason didn’t mention was that he was very enraged at Mark and Sarah. He also tried to turn other survivors against Mark and Sarah King. Weslody was just a fictional character and that character’s attitude. It didn’t mean in any way that’s what I was going to do. But as usual you’re not paying attention because you have no dimension. Mark and Sarah King, as Jason claims, are hiding information from him and have done so for a long time. He has consistently badgered the Kings as well as Rio Di Angelo with scathing remarks and harassing emails. Jason Bartel mentioned to me that he always had a problem with rage and was somewhat mentally handicapped. With his ardent with hunts, slamming articles against the Kings and Di Angelo and now me, they would certainly fit the bill of a man who is truly immature and truly insane.
Yes, Jason a.k.a Crlody, Carlan and now Non Entity on Blog Talk Radio is in trouble with the law. To think he says that I use multiple aliases. Double standard anyone? He’s in trouble for cyber bullying, stalking, slander, defamation and intimidation. He will yet again twist my words as usual to make it look like I’m trying to shut him up about the stupid hoax. That’s not the case at all. It’s his mundane attitude and junior high school ethics of a 14 year old. No one can pass muster with Jason. He’s the punisher. Look out. I am well aware I made the hoax but at least I sincerely regretted it and apologized about to those whom I have wronged. You consistently spat in my face like blow hard school boy. You have no regrets for your insane witch hunts against me, Di Angelo and the Kings. You have no soul if you’re too busy looking at the faults of others over your own. Stop acting like a big baby and grow up, PLEASE. I will see you in court. Don’t worry. You’ll be summoned soon enough.

Malpoet I just wanted to explain that I wasn’t in any way talking about you in when I used the “you” terminology. I was speaking to you about Jason and was then speaking directly to him. His attitude is typical of one dimensional cult 101 behaviors. A person comes clean, they get spat one and then get witch hunted. His behaviors are A typical of a vindictive and obsessed man in a cult. He is mentally handicapped and even admitted to it as well as having difficulties with rage. That is why his reasoning skills are poorly developed and so one dimensional. I sincerely hope that gets the medical attention he needs. It is my conclusion that he suffers from obsessive compulsive order and dissociative disorder. I’m a sci fi writer who wanted to add publicity to Heaven’s Gate who then got drawn into his own hoax like the Twilight Zone. Stupid idea, I know. Doesn’t mean that I’m confused like Jason is. I’m not some deeply disturbed and rabid blood hound with a vendetta. I don’t foam at the mouth towards all survivors. I don’t make it my number one and personal mission in life to bring down Rio Di Angelo, Mark King and me Austin. I sincerely studied HG information and sincerely believed it for a while. Bartel completely forgets this plus a whole bunch of other things. That’s where his one dimensional and mentally challenged defect comes in. It’s not his fault though. He can’t help it if he feeds off of the suffering of others through rampant vendettas. He can’t help it if he’s out of control to the point of law suits. He has stalked my former workers with personal questions to get inside information on me too which also why he is in trouble with the law. It’s called invasion of privacy. I would seriously conclude that he is 14 years old mentally and needs to be put in a group home for behavioral difficulties.

There is not much to be said about the recent comments by Austin and Jason other than that the ‘About Malpoet’ section of my blog is obviously not an appropriate place for them.
The whole world needs to be clear that Heaven’s Gate was a cult built around complete lies and fantasies and it resulted in the deaths of many people and the consequent suffering to their families, friends and associates. There exist today some apologists for HG as well as a whole load of other UFO fantasists. All of these people should be recognised for the deluded personalities that they are. Nobody should be drawn into this kind of nonsense. Although it may appear harmless on the surface the HG deaths and the tragedies associated with so many other cults are a sharp lesson that this is a route that can end in disater.
May 5, 2009 at 17:55 |
looks like both gys need to consult a physician immediately. if there exist today HG apologists and it appears as though this jason is one of them it would look like they haven’t learned a thing from all of the nonsense hoopla up to and after the suicides. it would be they who would need to consult physicians tragically more so than that prankster with the hoax.
May 5, 2009 at 18:36 |
Well Walter I certainly agree that people supporting, justifying or even claiming to ‘explain’ death cults like HG need some sort of help. I am not qualified to know whether that help is medical or of some other sort.
Unfortunately we have to accept what history has taught us. There are always people around who are capable of being duped by self appointed leaders and messiah’s. Often these people are talented orators, charming con artists or charismatic performers. If they are lucky cult members and followers can expect to lose money and a period of their lives as a consequence of falling for the lies and delusions of these people. For some the consequences can be very much worse. They may be sexually exploited or abused; they may suffer mental ill health; their family relationships may be destroyed or in the worst cases they could even lose their lives.
People who are promising salvation very soon for those who commit themselves completely to some group which has unique answers to all problems are very likely to be fraudsters or deluded or both. There is no wonderful salvation on the horizon and there is no imminent armaggedon either. If you need a more fulfilled life it is more likely to be found in the love of a partner and family along with an appreciation of the things you already have in life. A cult will only take these things away from you.
